Charles William Jordan
February 16, 1925 - July 25, 2009
Savannah- Mr. Charles William Jordan, 84, passed away Saturday, July 25, 2009.
Mr. Jordan was born in Savannah on February 16, 1925. He was the son of the late Wyman Harter Jordan and Ada Bell Hoskins Jordan. Mr. Jordan attended school in Savannah until he joined the Merchant Marines at the age of 16. Sailing with the Seaman's International Union and serving his country through three wars. The places he saw and went one could only dream of. He loved and missed the sea after his retirement, but stayed active in the Catholic Church. He loved fishing, crabbing, playing his guitar for family and friends, and traveling. Mr. Jordan was preceded in death by his loving wife of fifty years Beulah Elizabeth Drawdy Jordan; his grandson, Henry Carpenter; two brothers, Jack and Edward Jordan and two sisters, Mary Pratt and Sarah North Hudson.
Survivors include his brother and sister-in-law, Daniel and Thelma Hoskins of Pembroke; daughter and son-in-law, Terri and Manual Torrez of Rincon; three sons and a daughter-in-law, Ron and Debbie Jordan of Ridgeland, SC, William Jordan and Vincent Jordan, both of Savannah; four grandchildren, Adam Jordan, Amber Jordan, Dante Torrez, Brandon Torrez, and friends and great neighbors, Joe and Pearl Stanley, and many nieces and nephews.
Visitation: 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m., Wednesday, July 29, 2009 with a Rosary Service at 6:00 p.m. at the Islands Chapel of Fox & Weeks Funeral Directors.
Mass of Christian Burial: 11:00 a.m., Thursday, July 30, 2009 at Blessed Sacrament Catholic Church with The Reverend Jeremiah J. McCarthy, Celebrant.
Burial: Bonaventure Cemetery.
I am honored to have been accepted into your family, and to share holidays and special memories with all of you. I love you all, and my heart and prayers go out to you. I am so sorry for your loss. Your dad was an extraordinary man, and your parents greatest legacy is the kidness and caring you all show for one another and for others. Thank you for allowing me to be a part of your lives.
